The
Importance of Health & Safety

Over 300 people a year lose their lives at work in Britain.
In addition, around 158,000 non-fatal injuries are reported
each year, and an estimated 2.2 million suffer from ill health
caused or made worse by work. Accidents in 1996/97 drained the
economy by as much as £16 billion, and the cost to individual
companies in court fines was £5,450,000. These are by no means
confined to high-risk occupations. A little planning and action
can prevent many accidents and incidents of ill health. (Source:
Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and The British
Safety Council. December 1998.)

Good Health, Safety and Welfare policies and practices are not
only a legal requirement, they also make good business sense,
reducing down-time and lost production, as well as increasing
staff moral and motivation.

How
can OSL Help You?

Health & Safety Regulations may seem like a minefield, but
in reality they are based on common sense and good management
practice. However, it is small wonder, given all the other pressures
on companies, employers and managers find it increasingly difficult
to keep up with, and remain within current legislation.

Our wide range of Health & Safety experience enables us
to offer employers and managers a range of practical, no-nonsense
support and advice. For example, the development of Health &
Safety Policies, management awareness training, and risk assessments.

The policy of OSL is to work with your company to help you understand
what you need to do to comply with the various regulations,
and ensure you operate a safe work environment for your staff.
We offer a common-sense approach to enable you to understand
what needs to be done, allowing you to decide how much you wish
to do yourself, and so controlling the cost of advice and support.
